The summons came after Rainsy postponed a planned return to Cambodia on November 16 after a warrant was issued for his arrest over a defamation ruling stemming from comments he made in 2008 regarding Foreign Minister Hor Namhong’s role at a Khmer Rouge prison in the late 1970s, for which he could face a two-year jail term. He has since gone on record repeating the allegations that Namhong was a “kapo” in the Boeung Trabek camp and was responsible for many deaths. Both Rainsy and Sokha will not be returning to the Kingdom any time soon. Rainsy yesterday boarded a flight to France and Sokha is headed to the United States, according to party spokesman Yem Ponharith, who said they would be attempting to seek political support. Rainsy spent nearly four years in self-imposed exile in France to avoid being jailed on charges relating to the removal of markers along the Vietnamese border. He returned ahead of elections in 2013 as part of a political deal. www.phnompenhpost.com/national/rainsy-addresses-supporters-heads-franceund schwupps sinde beide oppositionsfuehrer weg.

A worldwide, 16-day campaign to end violence against women kicked off in Cambodia yesterday, with NGOs, the United Nations and government agencies intensifying their efforts toward preventative measures

Threats against journos spike Mon, 14 December 2015 Jamie Elliott There has been a dramatic rise in threats against journalists this year, with a parallel increase in arrests and legal challenges, the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) announced over the weekend. “This year we have seen 12 cases of threats against journalists, compared to just four in 2014,” the CCJ said in a statement on Saturday. “Some journalists were beaten up and arrested and detained, and in some cases equipment including cameras and voice recorders was confiscated.” Five journalists were sued this year, compared to just two in 2014, the statement added. Most of the bullying of the press was happening outside the capital, according to CCJ general secretary Puy Kea. “We have received complaints from provincial reporters who have tried to investigate businesspeople connected to illegal logging,” he said yesterday.

Protesters are demanding a $20 increase from the current minimum wage, or $148 a month, Bunthy and others at the scene said.
